Shubman Gill was named Sportsman of the Year (Team Sports) at the Sportstar Aces Awards 2026, held in Mumbai on Friday, in recognition of an outstanding season that elevated Indian cricket globally.

Gill underwent a significant leadership transition in 2025, ascending to captaincy in two formats. In May, Gill was named India’s Test captain ahead of the five-match tour of England, becoming the 37th skipper and the fifth youngest in the role at 25. He was later entrusted with the ODI captaincy as well.

He further reinforced his standing as one of the most complete batters in the game, finishing 2025 as the leading run-scorer across formats with 1,764 runs, not only for India but in international cricket overall, at an average just under 50.

In the IPL 2025, leading the Gujarat Titans, he amassed 650 runs in 15 matches at an impressive average of 50 and a strike rate of 155.87.
