Five persons were killed and four others were injured in two separate road accidents in East Godavari and Chittoor districts on Sunday.
In East Godavari district, three persons died on the spot after a car hit the median, crossed over to the opposite lane and collided with another vehicle on a National Highway near Yernagudem village under Devarapalli police limits. The deceased were identified as S. Satyanarayana and Maamidala Narayana Murthy of Kakinada and Mohammad Sayyad of Eluru district. The accident occurred when the car travelling from Kakinada towards Vijayawada went out of control, said Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore. At least six persons were travelling in the car. The bodies were shifted to Kovvur Government Hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered.
In Chittoor district, two persons were killed and four others injured after a car rammed the rear of a lorry near Kothakota flyover in Puthalapattu in the early hours of Sunday. The deceased were identified as Sathish, 50, and his wife Bhagyalakshmi, 45, residents of Mandya district in Karnataka. The family was travelling to Tirumala when the driver reportedly felt drowsy, leading to the accident, police said.
Two occupants were flung out of the vehicle due to the impact. Four others, including three children Mahalakshmi, 12, Pavani, 10, Thusara, 4, and a relative Shasank, 23, sustained minor injuries and were shifted to the Government Hospital in Chittoor. Police registered a case and are investigating.
