The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would extend its support to the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidates in the upcoming Assembly polls, it was decided at the party’s State secretariat meeting here on Sunday.

Making a formal announcement in this regard, party’s chairperson Abdul Nazir Maudany said that the decision was made in the wake of the need to strengthen the left front for thwarting ‘efforts’ under way to ruin Kerala’s secular image. Moreover attempts are being made to spread communalism and hatred in the State, like in northern States, to attain power, he said.

On its part, the Congress party is trying to garner votes by banking on anti-Left sentiments. In this situation, the PDP has decided to extend support to the LDF following bilateral political discussions, said V.M. Aliyar, general secretary of the party, in a release.
