The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather update for 16 March, warning of thunderstorms, rainfall and gusty winds across several parts of the country. The latest forecast indicates unsettled weather conditions in Delhi and neighbouring regions, while heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Northeast and eastern India over the next few days.According to the IMD release, changing atmospheric conditions and western disturbances are likely to influence weather patterns across multiple regions this week.The weather in Delhi today (16 March) is expected to remain partly cloudy, with strong surface winds likely during the daytime.The IMD said wind speeds could reach 20–30 kmph, particularly during afternoon hours.Minimum temperatures are expected to remain near normal at most locations, while maximum temperatures may remain slightly above normal across several parts of Delhi.Surface winds are likely to blow from the southeast in the morning, gradually shifting towards the northwest by the afternoon, before weakening in the evening.The weather in Delhi on 17 March is expected to remain partly cloudy, with continued strong winds during the day.The IMD forecast indicates:Wind speeds could reach 15–25 kmph, mainly from the east direction, before gradually easing later in the evening and night.The weather in Delhi on 18 March may turn more unsettled, with the IMD predicting generally cloudy skies and a spell of light rain or drizzle.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds of 20–30 kmph, gusting up to 40 kmph, may occur during the evening or night hours.Temperatures are expected to remain within the following range:Beyond Delhi, the IMD has warned of widespread weather activity across multiple regions of India.Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30–50 kmph are likely in parts of:Some areas may also witness squally winds reaching 50–70 kmph along with hailstorms, particularly over eastern states on 16 March.The IMD has also predicted fairly widespread rainfall across Northeast India over the next several days.States likely to experience light to moderate rain with thunderstorms include:Heavy rainfall is expected in Assam and Meghalaya between 15 and 17 March, with isolated heavy rain also likely in Arunachal Pradesh during the same period.The IMD forecast also highlights scattered rainfall and snowfall in the Western Himalayan region, including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, between 15 and 21 March.Some areas may experience thunderstorms, lightning and hailstorms, particularly during the early part of the week.Temperature conditions over the past 24 hours have remained significantly above normal in several regions, according to the IMD.Highest temperature: 41.6°C recorded in Akola, VidarbhaDay temperatures ranged between 38°C and 41°C in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.Meanwhile, the lowest minimum temperature in the plains was 10.3°C recorded in Alwar, Rajasthan.
