New Delhi: The NDA has got a major boost in the upper house after the current round of elections for 37 Rajya Sabha seats.The numbers tell a story of strategic consolidation. Of the 37 seats, 26 were decided unopposed, while 11 went to polls. NDA emerged as the clear victor, clinching 22 of these seats and leaving the Opposition with 15. The BJP led this charge with impressive performances in Bihar, Odisha, and Haryana.With a total strength of 250, the magic number for majority in the Rajya Sabha stands at 126. With the current results, the NDA has increased its tally from 135 to 141 seats. While the BJP remains the powerhouse of the alliance with 106 seats, the strength of the coalition lies in its diverse regional footprint.Key allies of the BJP -- AIADMK and JDU -- hold five and four seats respectively. Of the two BJP allies from Maharashtra, NCP has increased its tally from three to four seats while Shiv Sena has increased from one to two. UPPL of Assam has also increased its tally from one to two seats.TDP has two members in the upper house while there are nine NDA allies with one seat each.Among the INDIA bloc, though Congress improved its tally from 27 to 29 members, the total number of the Opposition alliance went down from 62 to 58. DMK, which had 10 members before March, is now left with eight. Similarly, RJD, which has five members in the upper house, is now left with three. DMDK of Tamil Nadu has got one RS seat as part of the deal with DMK.The parties, which are not part of any alliance, have have seen numbers fall from 47 to 45. The BJD and BRS lost one seat each in the current round of elections.
