Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi for a routine medical check-up, according to news reports which have cited party sources.

Gandhi was admitted to hospital late Tuesday evening after feeling unwell, news agency PTI reported citing sources.

According to sources cited by the news agency, the Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson experienced discomfort due to a change in weather and has been kept under observation. Doctors attending to her have indicated that there is nothing serious.

Her children, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, have visited her at the hospital.

Previous hospitalisation The senior Congress leader had earlier been admitted to the same hospital in January this year due to respiratory discomfort. Dr. Ajay Swaroop, Chairman of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, that time told ANI that she was experiencing respiratory discomfort, which medical evaluation attributed to a mild exacerbation of bronchial asthma triggered by cold weather and pollution.

Veteran leader, key roles Sonia Gandhi, who turned 79 this December, is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Rajasthan. She also serves as the Parliamentary Chairperson of the Indian National Congress.

She has had a long parliamentary career, serving five terms as a Lok Sabha MP before moving to the Upper House. Gandhi has also led the Congress party twice—as president from 1998 to 2017 and again from 2019 to 2022.

Limited public appearances In recent years, Gandhi has been seen less frequently at public events, with her health becoming a matter of periodic attention.
