2 Bears Who 'Spent Years in Darkness' in Cramped Indoor Cages Are Set to Enjoy the Outdoors for the First Time in Decades

Two female Asiatic black bears, Oriole and Cuckoo, have been rescued from a home in Vietnam. The bears, both over 20 years old, spent most of their lives in small, stark metal enclosures undergoing bile extractions until bear bile farming was banned. They are now at the Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre in Bach Ma National Park, receiving medical care and preparing for life at a sanctuary. Animals Asia worked with the owners for a year to facilitate the rescue, which marks the organization's third bear rescue in 2026.
