The first phase of randomisation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026 was held in Villupuram district on Wednesday, in the presence of District Election Officer and Collector Sheik Abdul Rahman and representatives of various political parties.

The EVMs were distributed to constituency-level warehouses from the district warehouse located in Villupuram. The allocation covered 2,165 polling stations in Villupuram district.

Officials allotted 2,165 ballot units and 2,165 control units, each including a 20% reserve, and 2,165 VVPAT units with a 30% reserve. The allocation was carried out using the Election Commission’s EVM management system, ensuring randomisation in the presence of representatives of political parties.

Following the process, the machines were handed over to Returning Officers and stored in strong rooms under surveillance. Later, the Collector inspected the counting centre at Arignar Anna Arts and Science College in Villupuram and reviewed the preparatory works.
