Despite the global oil prices edging higher on Thursday, prices of petrol and diesel have remained unchanged today, March 26, 2026. In Hyderabad, panic buying over alleged fuel shortages has caused long queues at petrol bunks and auto LPG stations. A ‘no stock’ sign displayed at a petrol pump in Hyderabad captured the scale of panic buying that swept parts of the city this week.Despite volatility in global oil markets, the Indian government has signalled that petrol and diesel prices are likely to remain stable for now, with oil marketing companies absorbing part of the fluctuations to shield consumers from sudden price shocks.Here’s a city-wise table of petrol and diesel prices on March 26, 2026:Due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East involving Iran, Israel and the United States, global crude oil prices have remained volatile in recent days. The crisis has raised concerns about potential disruptions to oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy chokepoint through which nearly 20% of global oil supply passes.However, the government has assured that there is no shortage of LPG, petrol or diesel in the country and urged people not to panic amid reports of increased demand in some areas. "We have sufficient petrol and diesel available. There is no shortage at any petrol pump,” it said. “Therefore, do not believe rumours and avoid panic buying. There has been no increase in the price of petrol and diesel,” the government said.Petrol and diesel prices in India have remained unchanged since May 2022, following tax reductions by the central government and several state governments.
