In a push to steer students beyond conventional job-seeking routes, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Udayakumar D. on Thursday emphasised the need for skill development and self-employment, calling it essential in today’s competitive world.
Inaugurating the district-level vocational and career guidance unit and career fair organised by the District Institute of Education and Training at Vasanth Mahal, he said students often face uncertainty about launching their careers after education, and such initiatives play a vital role in guiding them towards informed career choices.
He urged students not to restrict themselves to course-based employment avenues, but to explore alternatives such as entrepreneurship. “Without clear goals and initiative, such programmes will not serve their purpose,” he said.
The career fair featured 22 departmental stalls and drew participation from 1,255 students from various schools and colleges. It offered guidance on subject selection after SSLC and PUC, along with insights into diverse career paths.
Junior Training Officer Aravind from GITI, Pre-University Education Department Deputy Director Nagamma, DIET Nodal Officer Chandrashekhar K.H, and others were present.
