Chennai Super Kings star M.S. Dhoni is likely to miss the first two weeks of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the franchise announced on Saturday.

“MS Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a calf strain. As a result, he is likely to miss the first two weeks of TATA IPL 2026,” the official statement read.

Dhoni, who led CSK to five IPL titles, is the most successful captain in the league.

Last season, the former India skipper amassed 196 runs from 13 innings at a strike rate of 135.17. He struck 12 fours and 12 sixes in the season, while striking at 151.72 in the death overs.

Dhoni’s injury only adds to the woes of CSK, which is already without top-order batter Mathew Short, who will miss the opening few matches with a fractured thumb, while pacer Nathan Ellis has been ruled out of the tournament with a hamstring injury.
