NEW DELHI: A 15-year-old Boeing 737 with about 170 people on board operating IndiGo flight 6E 579 from Vizag to Delhi made a safe emergency landing at IGIA on Saturday morning after suffering an engine failure. IndiGo has wet leased (hired with operating crew) the aircraft (TC-CON) from Corendon Airlines of Turkey.On Saturday morning while approaching Delhi, the aircraft experienced an uncommanded inflight shutdown of engine number one. The CFM-56 engine failed after high vibrations. The pilots declared an emergency at 10.39 am after which and DIAL made all emergency arrangements as per protocol. The aircraft landed safely on single engine at 10.54 am on IGIA's runway 28.An IndiGo spokesperson said: “A technical snag was detected shortly before landing on IndiGo flight 6E 579 operating from Visakhapatnam to Delhi on March 28, 2026. As a precautionary step and in accordance with the standard operating procedure, the pilots requested for priority landing and the aircraft arrived safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport , Delhi. All relevant authorities were promptly informed and the aircraft is undergoing necessary checks and maintenance. At IndiGo, the safety of our customers and crew is our top priority."
