Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to review preparedness across sectors in light of the ongoing West Asia conflict, with a focus on ensuring uninterrupted supply of fuel, fertilisers and power. This was the second such meeting convened by the Prime Minister on the issue.Officials briefed the CCS on measures taken to secure supplies of key petroleum products, including LPG and LNG, with efforts underway to diversify sourcing by increasing imports from multiple countries. Domestic LPG prices have remained unchanged, while enforcement drives are being carried out to curb hoarding, diversion and black marketing. To meet rising summer demand, the government has also taken steps to ensure adequate power availability, including expanding piped natural gas connections, exempting certain gas-based power plants from pooling mechanisms, and increasing coal supplies to thermal stations. The meeting also reviewed sector-specific interventions in agriculture, civil aviation, shipping and logistics to address emerging challenges linked to the geopolitical situation. On fertilisers, the government said it is maintaining urea production and coordinating global supplies of DAP and NPK fertilisers. States have been asked to intensify monitoring and take strict action against hoarding and diversion.Retail prices of essential food items have remained stable over the past month, officials said, adding that control rooms have been set up to monitor prices and coordinate with states under the Essential Commodities Act.The government is also working on diversifying supply chains for energy and fertilisers, while pursuing diplomatic efforts to ensure safe passage of vessels through critical routes such as the Strait of Hormuz. The Prime Minister reviewed the availability of essential commodities and stressed the need to safeguard citizens from the impact of the global conflict. He also emphasised the importance of timely dissemination of accurate information to prevent misinformation.Modi directed all ministries and departments to take proactive steps to mitigate the impact of the evolving situation on citizens and key sectors.
