2Prince Harry and King Charles are quietly working to arrange a private meeting in New York City, according to sources cited by veteran British-American journalist Rob Shuter. The meeting will take place during the King's upcoming visit to the United States, Shuter reported in his Naughty But Nice newsletter.
Representatives for Harry and Meghan have publicly played down the chances of any reunion. However, Shuter's sources say that, behind the scenes, both sides are actively trying to make the meeting happen.
LiveMint could not independently verify the claim.
According to one insider, Harry is keen to bring his children, Archie and Lilibet, to the proposed meeting. "This isn't just about him. It's about reconnecting as a family," the source told Shuter.
Nothing has been confirmed, and the meeting would be kept entirely off the official schedule. "They're working on the logistics now. It would be completely private," an insider said.
The timing presents complications. King Charles will be based in Washington, DC, for a state visit, during which he is scheduled to meet Donald Trump.
“That complicates everything. You’ve got a state visit on one side and a very personal family situation on the other,” the source said.
The US president previously expressed little warmth toward Harry and Meghan. That political backdrop has made Washington an unlikely venue for any personal family reunion.
New York has instead emerged as the preferred location. "It's neutral ground and easier to keep under the radar," a source explained.
Shuter's sources described the mood on both sides as cautiously hopeful. "There's still a lot to heal," one insider said. "But, there's also a real desire to move forward."
The possible presence of the grandchildren, the sources suggested, could give the meeting a significance that goes well beyond mere diplomacy.
“This isn’t about headlines. It’s about family — and a chance to start again,” the insider added.
It is unclear if Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, will be a part of the private encounter. The relationship between Meghan and the British royal family has been complicated.
No official confirmation Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla will visit the United States in late April for an official state visit. The visit is likely to take place from April 27 to 30.
The trip will include Washington DC and a formal banquet at the White House. This will be the first UK state visit to the US since 2007. King Charles is also expected to address Congress.
