The accused allegedly took the minor to an abandoned house in the village and raped her while her parents were out for work. Locals gathered after hearing the minor cry, following which they informed her mother. The locals also caught and handed him to police.
A police team reached the spot and took the accused into custody. “A case was lodged against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act,” a police officer said, adding that the accused was arrested.
The minor’s mother said that she had gone out for work when the incident occurred. The accused had allegedly offered ₹600 to the minor. “The locals informed me about the incident. He (the accused) was caught and brought to the police station. Now, we want justice for our daughter,” she added.
Meanwhile, a total of 667 cases related to crimes against women were registered and 426 persons were arrested in connection with these cases last year in Tripura. Of the total crimes against women cases registered last year, 168 were related to rape and 116 to molestation.
During the investigation, police found the involvement of 298 persons in rape-related cases and arrested 182 of them. The same year recorded a total of 116 molestation cases, with the involvement of 186 persons. Police arrested 58 persons in connection with molestation cases.
