An India-flagged large gas carrier, Green Sanvi , has safely transited the Strait of Hormuz on Friday night, carrying around 46,650 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), ANI reported, citing official sources.The development comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia and a maritime blockade in the region, which has raised concerns over global energy supply routes.In a related movement, a separate LPG shipment of about 47,000 metric tonnes arrived at the Vadinar Terminal of DPA Kandla in Jamnagar, Gujarat, on March 28. The vessel, MT Jag Vasant, is scheduled to transfer its cargo to another ship at anchorage through a ship-to-ship (STS) operation.The report added, citing the sources that Indian Navy warships were on standby to assist merchant vessels navigating the region.The Centre has been in discussions with Iranian authorities to facilitate the passage of Indian vessels through the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing conflict.At a joint inter-ministerial briefing, Mukesh Mangal, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, said all Indian vessels and crew in the Persian Gulf are being closely monitored and remain safe.He noted that 18 Indian vessels with around 485 seafarers are currently in the region. More than 964 seafarers have been repatriated so far, while port operations across the country continue without disruption.Mangal added that authorities are maintaining close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions abroad and other maritime stakeholders to manage the evolving situation.Separately, a senior government official said around 5,98,000 passengers have returned to India amid the developing security situation in West Asia and the Gulf region.The ongoing crisis, which began on February 28 following US-Israel strikes on Iran and subsequent retaliation by Tehran, has escalated tensions across the region and impacted global fuel supply chains.
