Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay, on Sunday (March 29, 2026), announced his decision to enter the electoral fray by contesting from two constituencies — Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East. He also unveiled in Chennai the list of candidates for all the 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu for the April 23 Assembly elections.
In its debut electoral contest, the party has fielded 24 women candidates. Prominent TVK functionaries, who have been given the ticket include its general secretary N. Anand from T. Nagar, treasurer P. Venkataramanan from Mylapore, and other functionaries Aadhav Arjuna from Villivakkam, K.A. Sengottaiyan from Gopichettipalayam, Arun Raj from Tiruchengode, and former AIADMK MLA J.C.D. Prabhakar from Thousand Lights.
The TVK’s candidate announcement came a day after the DMK announced a list of candidates for 164 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu.
In Tiruchi East constituency, Mr. Vijay is set for a high-stakes electoral contest against Inigo S. Irudayaraj of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK) and K. Rajasekaran of the AIADMK. Meanwhile, in Perambur constituency, the TVK president is in fray along with R.D. Shekar of the DMK and M. Thilagabama of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), an ally of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
