The blockbuster success of Dhurandhar 2 has hit an unexpected hurdle, as the film now finds itself at the centre of a legal dispute over music rights. Even as Dhurandhar 2 continues its impressive box office run, a lawsuit has been filed that could complicate its ongoing commercial journey.According to reports, Trimurti Films has taken legal action against filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s production house, B62 Studios, alleging that Dhurandhar 2 used the iconic song Tirchi Topiwale without proper authorisation. The complaint claims that Dhurandhar 2 incorporated elements of the original track into its song Rang De Lal, sparking concerns over copyright infringement. The track Tirchi Topiwale originally featured in the 1989 film Tridev and was composed by the legendary duo Kalyanji-Anandji, with lyrics penned by Anand Bakshi. Over the years, the song has remained a cult favourite, making its alleged unauthorised use in Dhurandhar 2 a significant issue.Trimurti Films has argued that Dhurandhar 2 includes portions or a version substantially similar to the original composition in Rang De Lal, without securing the required licences. The lawsuit further claims that this usage in Dhurandhar 2 amounts to copyright infringement, including unauthorised reproduction and public communication of the work. The legal complaint seeks an injunction to halt any further use of the disputed track in Dhurandhar 2, alongside financial damages and other remedies. Additionally, concerns have been raised about the commercial exploitation of the song through Dhurandhar 2’s theatrical release, streaming platforms, and promotional campaigns.Interestingly, Dhurandhar 2 does credit the original creators in the music details of Rang De Lal. The recreated track features contributions from composer Shashwat Sachdev, along with new lyrics and vocals. The credits list Kalyanji-Anandji alongside Sachdev, while singers Amit Kumar, Jasmine Sandlas, Afsana Khan, and Reble are acknowledged. Lyricist Anand Bakshi is also credited, alongside newer contributors.Despite the brewing controversy, Dhurandhar 2 remains a massive box office force. Released on 19 March, Dhurandhar 2 has already crossed the Rs 1,000 crore mark in India’s net domestic collections, an extraordinary feat that cements its blockbuster status. The film’s wide release across five languages, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, has only amplified its reach.Fronted by Ranveer Singh, Dhurandhar 2 boasts a strong ensemble cast including R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, and Danish Pandor. With its commercial success showing no signs of slowing, the legal battle surrounding Dhurandhar 2 adds a new layer of intrigue to its story.Inputs from agencies
