Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Glenn Phillips is considered one of the most athletic cricketers in modern times. The New Zealand international has previously taken some outrageous catches in the field to redefine the laws of physics.

Phillips is also extremely quick between the wickets, as evidenced by his sprint to the non-striker’s end without his bat in his hand against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in their 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, April 8.

Facing T.Natarajan during the latter stages of the first innings, Phillips hit a low full toss down the ground. Mistiming the shot, the 29-year-old expected Tristan Stubbs to take the catch on the long on boundary with relative ease and began walking towards the dressing room.

Stubbs, however, could not reach the ball, resulting in Phillips completing the run without the bat in his hand.

Video of Phillips sprinting for a single with a bat can be seen below:

Glenn Phillips thought it was an easy catch… threw his bat in frustration 😭

Next second — realises it’s NOT OUT and turns into a WARRIOR sprinting for the line 🔥💪 clutch mentality!#GTvsDC #IPL2026 #GlennPhillips #IPL #Cricket #TATAIPL #DCvsGT #CricketTwitter pic.twitter.com/srVE4WpfUq — Yogi Halai (@Yogi_Halai190) April 8, 2026

Phillips made a handy contribution lower down the order, scoring an unbeaten 14 off just nine balls to help GT post 210 runs on the board. This included hitting a six in the final over off the bowling of Mukesh Kumar.

The 2022 champions secured a dramatic one-run victory over DC after the hosts failed to chase down 13 runs off the final over, despite former GT batter David Miller reducing the equation down to just two runs needed from two balls.

This was the Titans’ first win of the 2026 IPL season, after suffering defeats in their opening two games of the season against the Punjab Kings and the Rajasthan Royals.

Phillips, meanwhile, has finally established himself in the playing XI of an IPL franchise after a long wait. The New Zealand star last featured in the tournament in 2023, playing five games for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was signed by GT in 2025 for INR 2 crores, but an injury forced him out of the entire season.
