Nuwan Thushara apologises for taking legal action against Sri Lanka Cricket over IPL NOC dispute
Another twist regarding a Sri Lankan cricketer amid the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026). A few days ago it was reported that Sri Lanka star Nuwan Thushara had dragged the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), to court as he found it difficult to get a No Objection Certificate from the board to participate in the overseas franchise leagues, including the IPL.
On Friday afternoon, Newswire reported that the pacer has issued an apology letter to the board, expressing that he had no intention to take the board to court.
Nuwan Thushara apologizes to the Sri Lanka Cricket for dragging the matter to court
"In an email addressed to Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva, with copies to President Shammi Silva and another official, Thushara said it was never his intention to take the cricket board to court or place the organization in a difficult position," according to the media report.

Nuwan Thushara stated that his sole intention was to claim justice as he felt unfairness and injustice regarding the matter. He clearly mentioned in the letter that he has no desire to go against the board by any means.
"My sole intention throughout this process has been to seek fairness and justice, as I genuinely feel that I have been treated unfairly in this matter. The steps I initially considered were driven by a desire to have my concerns heard and addressed appropriately, rather than to create conflict or bring disrepute to the organization," the Sri Lankan pacer wrote in his letter.
Nuwan Thushara wishes to withdraw all the legal objections
The seam bowler further apologised to the Sri Lanka Cricket board for his action, and stated that he will withdraw all the legal objections he made, taking steps against the cricket governing body of the nation.
"I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, misunderstanding, or distress that my actions may have caused to Sri Lanka Cricket and its officials," Nuwan Thushara said in his letter.
"With this in mind, I would like to express my willingness to withdraw any legal action and instead seek an amicable resolution to this matter. I remain hopeful that we can move forward positively and constructively," the letter continues.
SLC's latest fitness standards cause trouble for its players
It was previously reported that Thushara filed a case in the Colombo District Court, seeking a No Objection Certificate which SLC refused to issue. Without the No Objection Certificate from the board, players are not allowed to take part in any overseas franchise leagues including the IPL.
After the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2026, Sri Lanka was the co-host along with India, but failed to reach even the semi-finals. As soon as the tournament was over, SLC introduced a refreshed fitness standard to keep all of its key players.
Players, who are yet to prove their fitness levels, are restricted from receiving a NOC. Sri Lankan starts like Nuwan Thushara and Matheesha Pathirana are some of the players who are yet to get a NOC from the board.
