Several banks including HDFC Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Bandhan Bank have announced modifications to ATM cash withdrawal policies, fees and restrictions. The revised changes will take effect on April 1, 2026.HDFC Bank has stated that Unified Payment Interface (UPI)-based cash withdrawals at its ATMs will now count towards the monthly free ATM transaction limit. This will be effective April 1, 2026. It should be noted that after a customer exceeds HDFC Bank’s free transaction limit, charges will apply for withdrawals.From April 1, 2026, onwards, UPI cash withdrawals at HDFC Bank ATMs will be treated the same as regular ATM cash withdrawals. The revised limits will take effect on April 1, 2026, according to a PNB statement.The cash withdrawal per day limit from an ATM has been reduced from Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 50,000 on PNB debit card variants such as RuPay NCMC Platinum Domestic Debit card, RuPay NCMC Platinum International Debit card, RuPay Women Power Platinum Debit card, RuPay PNB Palaash Debit card- Recycled PVC Debit card, RuPay Business Platinum NCMC Debit card, MasterCard Platinum Debit card, VISA Gold Debit card and PNB MasterCard Platinum Rise.For cards such as RuPay Select Debit card, PNB RuPay Select Neo, PNB RuPay Select Excel, VISA Signature Debit card and MasterCard Business Debit card, Punjab National Bank has reduced the ATM cash withdrawal limit from Rs 1,50,000 to Rs 75,000.Bandhan Bank will revise the number of free ATM transactions for debit card users effective April 1, 2026. Under the updated rules, customers can avail up to five free financial transactions and unlimited non-financial transactions per month at Bandhan Bank ATMs. However, for transactions at other bank ATMs, the free usage will be capped at three transactions per month in metro cities and five transactions in non-metro cities, with this limit covering both financial and non-financial transactions combined.Depending on the card, Bandhan Bank will continue to offer unlimited free transactions at Bandhan Bank ATMs. However, free transactions at other bank ATMs will depend on the account type linked to a debit card. Once the free transaction limit is exceeded, customers will be charged Rs 23 per financial transaction and Rs 10 per non-financial transaction. Additionally, a charge of Rs 25 will be levied for ATM transaction declines due to insufficient funds.Metro cities include Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi. Any other city except these 6 cities will be considered as non-metro.
