Ceramic City kilns go cold over fuel crisis: ‘Hippo’ cylinders run out, workers leave

Khurja, a town in UP's Bulandshahr, is known for its Indian ceramics industry, with over 350 units producing plates, cups, and decorative items. The industry employs more than 25,000 people and is valued at over $420 million. However, due to the Iran war, pottery manufacturers in Khurja are struggling to run their plants due to disrupted energy supply chains and mounting fuel costs, with piped gas prices increasing to around Rs 90 per kg.
