At least six dead in heavy rains in northeast Brazil, thousands displaced

Heavy rains in northeastern Brazil have caused widespread destruction, resulting in at least six deaths and thousands of people displaced. Flooding and landslides were reported in Pernambuco and Paraiba states, with the state capital Recife being one of the hardest hit areas. At least two people were confirmed killed in Recife and two others in nearby Olinda. The National Center for Risk and Disaster Management issued 22 emergency alerts during the rain, raising the operational level to maximum alert.
