Bengal at 92%, Tamil Nadu at 85%, phase 1 of Assembly polls closes with record turnout

Tamil Nadu and 152 constituencies in West Bengal registered record voting in assembly polls with largely free violence. In Tamil Nadu, a voting percentage of 85.11% was recorded, translating to 48.8 million voters, the highest turnout in the state's history. West Bengal's Phase 1 recorded 92.35% voter turnout, translating to 33.2 million voters, also the highest since at least the 2011 assembly elections.
