Delhi's groundwater levels improve, records show higher recharge than use in 2025

Delhi's groundwater extraction rate has shown a significant improvement with an extraction rate of 92.1% in 2024-25, indicating more water is being recharged than extracted. The city recharged 0.38 billion cubic metres of water, exceeding the 0.32 billion cubic metres extracted. This improvement is reflected across Delhi's 34 assessment units, with 21 units classified as "overexploited" or "critical" in 2024-25, down from 27 in 2023-24.
