EC rejects Meenakshi Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha nomination; Congress cries foul

The Election Commission has cancelled the nomination of Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan for the Rajya Sabha election due to objections that she failed to disclose a court summons issued in connection with a rape case filed against a Congress leader in Telangana. The cancellation was protested by the Congress, which claims that the move is an attempt to compromise its MLAs and compromise democracy. The returning officer scrutinised the papers and cancelled her candidature after taking objections into account.
