Ecological disaster: Jairam Ramesh writes to Rajnath on Great Nicobar project

Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP, has written to defence minister Rajnath Singh expressing concerns about the Great Nicobar Island Development Project. Ramesh calls the project a "recipe for ecological disaster" and urges consideration of expanding existing naval infrastructure instead. The project, being executed by the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation, proposes a deep-sea transshipment port, a dual-use international airport, and other infrastructure across 16,610 hectares on Great Nicobar Island.
