First country to ban gas car imports now has 100,000 EVs as Africa's electric shift speeds up

Ethiopia has seen a significant increase in electric vehicle (EV) adoption, with EVs now making up 8% of all cars on the road. The country banned imports of gas- and diesel-powered cars two years ago, helping to drive the growth of EVs. Ethiopia's large share of electricity generated from cleaner power sources provides a foundation for electrified transport, allowing EVs to be powered by locally produced clean energy. This has helped protect the country against fuel shortages and rising oil costs.
