‘Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly’ elections: India lodges strong protest with Pakistan

India lodged a strong protest with Pakistan regarding its plans to hold general elections for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly in Indian territories illegally occupied by Pakistan. The Government of India reiterated its position that the Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh, including Gilgit-Baltistan, are integral parts of India due to J&K's complete and irreversible accession in 1947. India rejects any attempts by Pakistan to bring material change to areas under its illegal occupation.
