Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) thrilling six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their previous IPL 2026 clash in Guwahati was marred by the off-the-field controversy. Actually, the Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder’s moment inside the dugout has turned into a big controversy.

During the Royals’ successful chase against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati, cameras caught Romi Bhinder using a mobile phone in the dugout. The clip quickly went viral and raised serious questions, as phones are not allowed to be used in the dugout area during matches.

BCCI's ACSU issues notice to Rajasthan Royals Team Manager over dugout controversy

Following the online uproar, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to take action. Now, BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) has asked Bhinder to explain the situation within 48 hours.

The rules are very strict when it comes to communication during matches.

IPL Governing Council chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed to The New Indian Express: “We have asked the ACSU to investigate and file a report on the incident.”

Romi Bhinder’s serious health history adds a new twist

However, there is another side of this episode. It is being said that the Rajasthan Royals team manager has been dealing with serious health issues. He went through a life-threatening condition where both his lungs collapsed, and he was on a ventilator for nearly a week.

After that, Bhinder was shifted to the ICU, where he spent around three weeks. Because of this past condition, he keeps a phone with him all the time as a safety measure. A source close to the development revealed, as quoted by The New Indian Express: “Both of his lungs had collapsed, and that medical emergency meant he spent nearly a month in a Nagpur hospital.”

Medical need behind the drama as RR Manager is still recovering

However, for such conditions, there are also rules that allow a team official to carry a phone for emergency reasons, but he can use that only inside the dressing room.

Meanwhile, Romi Bhinder is reportedly still recovering from his lung issue. Another source revealed that Romi has lost more than 10 kilos due to medical issues, and he also has asthma, which makes it difficult for him to keep moving between the dressing room and the dugout again and again.

The source stressed that Bhinder has been with the RR team for a long time and served the team in various roles, so he knows the rules and regulations, but that “phone was in his possession due to medical reasons." He claimed that the team official can carry a mobile phone and a laptop in the dugout as per the protocol.

Didn’t call anyone: Romi Bhinder seeks relief over medical condition

The source added, “The only problem was the usage, but again, he was not making calls or receiving any of them. He was just scrolling his phone. He has time and he will try to explain his point of view to the ACSU officials.”

Bhinder is expected to share his side soon, and a final call will be taken after the ACSU reviews everything. The source signed off by saying, “We are hopeful that the ACSU officials will keep Romi's medical conditions in mind before arriving at a conclusion.

The problem was he had to walk at least 50 steps before climbing around 20 steps to reach the dressing room and do the same to return to the dugout. That must have forced him to check the phone at the dugout itself.”
