Humpback whale 'Timmy' released in the North Sea after weeks stranded off Germany

A humpback whale recovered from a shallow bay off Wismar is being transported towards the North Sea in a flooded cargo ship near the Danish border in Fehmarn, Germany. The whale was previously stranded in shallow waters near Wismar, where it had been spotted swimming far from its natural habitat in the Atlantic Ocean. A private initiative led the rescue effort, with the environment minister for Germany's Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state giving the green light for the attempt. The whale's health had deteriorated due to repeated strandings in shallow waters.
