India’s nuclear push advances with Kudankulam expansion approval

The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board has approved the installation of major equipment at Units 5 and 6 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, enabling the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited to proceed with the erection of critical plant components. The approval follows a detailed safety review and indicates that the project has met prescribed safety and quality benchmarks. The Kudankulam nuclear complex, located in Tamil Nadu, is being developed in technical collaboration with Russia and will house six pressurised water reactor units once completed.
