Iran expands tiered internet access amid continued online blackout

Iran's President has announced the creation of a new entity, the Specialised Headquarters for Organising and Guiding Iran's Cyberspace, to review internet coverage in the country. The entity will be headed by First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, who is expected to devise a roadmap to overhaul cyberspace governance and review the efficiency of the Supreme Council of Cyberspace. The move comes amid a near-total online blackout affecting Iranian citizens, with the government restricting access to the internet based on security considerations.
