The flooding has affected over 54,000 households, with 6,000 in Nairobi, and has caused dozens of schools and hospitals to flood. Roads have been cut off, and mudslides have forced people to move from the western Rift Valley area. People living downstream of the Tana and Athi rivers have been advised to move to higher ground due to rising water levels in hydroelectric dams
