Mexico’s Sinaloa state governor resigns amid US drug trafficking charges

The governor of Mexico's Sinaloa state has temporarily resigned after being indicted by US authorities for allegedly aiding the Sinaloa drug cartel in its smuggling operations. The governor, a member of President Claudia Sheinbaum's Morena party, denied any wrongdoing and said he is taking a temporary leave to defend himself. The US indictment also charged nine other officials, including the mayor of Culiacan, who has also announced his resignation.
