More than 1.5 million pilgrims brave fierce Mecca heat ahead of Hajj

Pilgrims braving the heat in Mecca are taking precautions to stay cool, with temperatures near 47°C. They are seeking shelter under umbrellas and drinking plenty of water. Saudi Arabia has expanded shaded areas at the Holy Mosques, increasing them fivefold since a period when extreme heat resulted in significant loss of life.
