Peru's election chief resigns over logistical problems in hotly disputed presidential contest

Peru's national election agency head has resigned due to logistical problems affecting the country's disputed presidential election. The election, which took place on April 12, had to be extended after voting materials failed to reach some centers in Lima, preventing over 52,000 people from casting their ballots on time. Officials are still counting votes and sifting through tally sheets from remote areas and abroad. A runoff will be held in June.
