Pneumonia remains a leading cause of infant deaths in Karnataka, with data showing it accounted for 204 cases out of 4,709 infant deaths recorded. This is despite the state making progress in reducing mortality from other conditions. Diarrhoea, once a major contributor to infant mortality, now accounts for just 12 deaths, reflecting sustained public health gains.
