Problems in land transactions continue to persist a year after passage of Bhu Bharati Act

Farmers in Telangana continue to face problems with land transactions. A recent incident in Gajulapahad village of Sangareddy district is indicative of the difficulties faced by farmers in securing rights over their lands. Farmers are reportedly unable to prevent others from transferring ownership of their land through sada bainama, a type of plain paper transaction, without their knowledge.
