Russia and Ukraine declare competing ceasefires

Russia has declared a unilateral ceasefire from May 8-9, marking Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War. The Russian Ministry of Defence hopes Ukraine will follow suit. Ukraine's President has announced a separate ceasefire from May 5-6, stating that human life is more valuable than any anniversary celebration. The Ukrainian President also warned Russian leaders to take real steps to end the war.
