SC agrees to hear AgustaWestland middleman James’ plea for release from jail

The Supreme Court of India has agreed to hear alleged middleman Christian Michel James's plea for release from jail in the VVIP chopper scam case. The court has issued notice to the Centre, Central Bureau of Investigation, and Enforcement Directorate, seeking their response in four weeks. James has challenged Article 17 of the India-UAE extradition treaty, which allows prosecution for connected offences, and a trial court order rejecting his application for release from jail. The matter will be listed in July.
