SC directs Kerala govt to take custody of state's tallest elephant Raman

The Supreme Court has directed the Kerala government to take custody of the state's tallest elephant, Raman, who stands at 10.53 ft. The court observed that Raman has been subjected to commercial exploitation and used in ceremonial processions and rituals. The court found Krishnankutty guilty of contempt for violating an undertaking given to the apex court and imposed a fine. The Kerala government may temporarily care for the elephant at its own expense, subject to final orders from the court.
