Supreme Court directs states to ensure transport vehicles install tracking devices and emergency buttons

The Supreme Court has directed states and Union territories to ensure transport vehicles install tracking devices and emergency buttons. States and UTs are asked to file a fresh status report showing compliance with installing speed-limiting devices. The court has also directed the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to have talks with manufacturers to pre-install these devices in new vehicles and retrofit existing ones. Fitness certificates or permits will not be issued to vehicles that do not comply with these conditions.
