Tanur boat accident: Justice V K Mohanan Commission submits final report with safety recommendations

The Justice V K Mohanan Commission of Inquiry has submitted its final report on the 2023 Tanur boat accident in Malappuram district. The commission, constituted to investigate the accident, has made 141 recommendations aimed at overhauling water transport safety and licensing protocols. The report, submitted to CM Pinarayi Vijayan, deals with systemic issues, including licensing and enforcement mechanisms, future safety measures, and a review of actions taken after previous boat accidents in the state. The commission held public consultation sessions and recorded statements from officials and members of the public.
