Trouble for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi! BCCI issues statement on RR Anti-Corruption Protocol breach case in IPL 2026
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement regarding a serious Anti-Corruption Protocol breach involving Rajasthan Royals (RR) team manager Romi Bhinder. The dugout manager used a mobile phone while sitting next to young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, creating major trouble.
Rajasthan Royals defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Friday, April 10. The Royals, led by Riyan Parag, remained unbeaten in the tournament after three matches, while RCB, led by Rajat Patidar, recorded their first defeat after two consecutive victories.
Trouble For Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Following Anti-Corruption Protocol Breach
Television cameras clearly captured Romi Bhinder using a mobile phone inside the Rajasthan Royals dugout during the eleventh over of their run chase. The footage also showed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi sitting nearby and repeatedly looking at the phone screen.
The Players and Match Officials Area protocol strictly prohibits the use of mobile phones in the dugout. While team managers can carry phones in the dressing room, only designated analysts are allowed to use electronic devices at tables during IPL matches.
The Anti-Corruption Unit may seize and scan the phone used by Romi Bhinder to ensure full transparency. Officials could also warn Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for being close to the device and looking at it during the match.
Match referee Vengalil Narayanan Kutty oversaw the game along with two anti-corruption officers in Guwahati. His report will be important in deciding whether Romi Bhinder faces fines, sanctions, or a possible ban from the IPL.
We Will Conduct an Internal Examination - Devajit Saikia
Devajit Saikia confirmed that the BCCI will conduct a detailed internal investigation into the serious protocol breach. Saikia stated that the process will remain transparent, with officials carefully reviewing broadcast images and video footage before reaching a final conclusion.
"Certain individuals are allowed to carry phones in the dugout and Romi Bhinder, as a manager, can carry it. But we need to thoroughly examine where exactly the event happened and whether the phone was used. We will conduct an internal examination before reaching a logical conclusion," Saikia told TOI.
"As I said, we will examine it. We can't act on what is being said. We will see the pictures, video and whatever we can get before reaching to the conclusion," he added.
Lalit Modi Demands Immediate Action Over Rajasthan Royals Dugout Controversy
Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi condemned the controversial dugout incident, involving Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, on social media. He demanded immediate action from the governing council and questioned the effectiveness and awareness of the Anti-Corruption Unit during the live broadcast.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India must resolve the issue quickly before Rajasthan Royals face the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next match on Monday. Officials must decide whether Romi Bhinder will be allowed to sit in the dugout for that game.
The Anti-Corruption Code applies to all team officials and players. The IPL Governing Council now has a limited time to investigate the matter and decide the appropriate action against Romi Bhinder and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
