Turkish police arrest more than 500 people at May Day rallies

Turkish police have arrested more than 500 people and fired tear gas at May Day demonstrations in Istanbul. Many of those arrested were trying to march to Taksim Square, which has been sealed off by police since 2013. Extensive security measures have been in place at the entrances to several squares, including Gundogdu Square in Izmir and Istasyon Square in Diyarbakır, where May Day celebrations are taking place
