Ukraine civilian deaths hit three-year high in May, UN says

Civilian casualties in Ukraine have reached a three-year high in May, with the UN reporting 274 people killed and 1,763 injured. This marks a 93% increase from May 2025. Rocket and drone strikes are responsible for 45% of the casualties, with short-range drones causing the most deaths and injuries. Since the conflict began in February 2022, over 16,000 civilians have been killed and 46,000 injured, with some casualties not included in UN statistics due to lack of access to Russian-occupied territories.
