WATCH: Kusal Mendis remains tight-lipped on being questioned of leaving PSL over IPL in 2025
After being signed by Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 2026, he has had a decent run, scoring 241 runs in four innings.
With the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 reaching its half-stage mark, in match number 19, Peshawar Zalmi once again dominated the defending champions Lahore Qalandars, registering a 76-run win at the National Stadium, Karachi. Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis played a superb role with his 48-ball 74 knock, along with a 40-ball 43 from Babar Azam, but he was encountered with an absurd question in the post-match press conference.
After his match-winning knock against the Lahore Qalandars, a reporter asked him if he regretted leaving PSL over Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025. “Last year you withdrew from the PSL to play IPL midway through the tournament. This year they didn’t pick you. Don’t you have any regrets for leaving PSL?” the reporter questioned, leaving the batter in an awkward moment.

The moderator was quick to intervene and asked the reporter to ask questions only on PSL and the Peshawar Zalmi match, leaving the reporter to ask something around PSL. As a result, Mendis refrained from responding and remained silent until another question.
Kusal Mendis continues brilliant form for Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 2026
Mendis, who is plying his trade for Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi in PSL, was part of the Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2025, where he played 8 matches. However, he had left the PSL season midway to join Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL as a replacement player for Jos Buttler, citing security reasons. However, ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction, the Sri Lankan was released by the franchise and failed to get any buyer.
