‘What comes next?’: Fear grips Pakistani families of Somali piracy victims

A 26-year-old woman from Malir Khokhrapar, a lower-middle-class neighbourhood in Pakistan's biggest city, is struggling to explain to her three-year-old daughter that her father is being held captive on an oil tanker off the coast of Somalia. Her husband, a 29-year-old Pakistani sailor, has been held hostage for nearly two weeks along with nine other Pakistani sailors and crew members from various countries. The family had been enjoying a happy period before the hijacking, with the father regularly calling and sending videos to his family.
