Yemen fuel price hikes deepen hardship as transport costs rise

The Yemen Petroleum Company has announced a new round of fuel price hikes in areas under its administration. The price of petrol and diesel has been raised to 1,475 Yemeni riyals per litre, up from 1,190, representing a 24 percent increase. The company attributed the increase to regional tensions, disruptions to shipping, and a surge in transport and insurance costs. The YPC has defended the fuel hikes, stating that prices will return to previous levels once regional hostilities subside.
